How is your kinky Afro textured hair doing?

Hi everyone,

I am sorry, I have been fighting a cold so I have not really posted lately.

I have been getting a lot of inquires about what to do with your Kinky Afro textured hair when it is at an awkward stage. So here are a few tips to help you ladies and gentlemen out on this one:

1. Put your hair in a protective style: Braids, weaves, kinky twists any style that will hide your actual hair and ends to allow you to receive the maximum growth that you can. Remember to use only water based sprays (you can create your own with distilled water and you favorite oil(s) and some veggie glycerin) on your scalp and rub it in. For me I just rub that good ole JBCO on my scalp and spritz my moisturizing mixture and massage in and go. The less manipulation on our Afro hair texture the less damage and the more length retention.

2. Try a new style on your kinky Afro textured hair: Stand in the mirror and try something different and funky! You tube has great tutorials, but I think that it is more fun to try your own with your hair because natural hairstyles rarely come out like the person who created it did. If you are going to do YouTube, then make sure that you find tutorials with people that have your hair length and not longer or shorter.

3. Just let it be: The less manipulation to our hair, the more length we can retain. So if you can just wash, condition, pamper, seal and go then do it. Your hair will love it, but kinky Afro textured hair will dry and wrap around itself and cause fairy knots so be careful and learn your hair. For me, when I wash, conditioner, moisturize and seal, I have to seal with JBCO and raw African Shea butter and my hair will not get the knots because it is still moisturized. So find out what works for your hair, and stick with it.

4. This is a good time to test products: If you like to test different kinds of products on your hair, then this would be a great time to sample them, because you will want to try a new style to see if the product works, and you will have to style your hair in a style that you would like. A NEW STYLE!

5. Ask other naturals that you see: Stop and ask other naturals that you see around with your same hair length. Ask them what styles they like and how they do them, ask them where they learned the style from and if they can give you the website info.

Hope that this info can at least guide you in the right direction. Be gentle and patient with your Kinky Afro textured hair, it is growing so give it more and more love!
